Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Transportation is the most requested service

  • We provide rides throughout Westchester County
  • We pick up and deliver groceries from local food pantries
  • We pick up and deliver pharmacy and grocery orders
  • To obtain a ride call our Service Center at (914) 222-5116. Please call at least 2 full business days before the day your ride is needed. If the ride is need on a Tuesday, request the ride by the prior Thursday.

We have periodic get-togethers where we celebrate holidays or have topics of interest discussed by guest speaker. All our members receive invitations to these events.

 

ITAV Connections - Enables our members to get in touch with other members who have similar interests.

Additional Services 
- We are steadily building our cadre of volunteers. Over time we expect to add additional services such as:

  • Helping Hands - climbing a ladder to change light bulbs or replace smoke alarm batteries.
  • Technical Support - help with internet, email, TV remote or cell phone
  • Checking In - personal visits or phone calls

  • TAV offers services that help seniors in our community to remain independent in their homes. 
  • We are organized to supplement services and not to duplicate services provided by other not-for-profit or government organizations. ITAV will provide information to help seniors identify other existing services which are not provided by ITAV.
  • Transportation - is our principal activity. ITAV provides free rides to and from destinations within Westchester County Monday through Friday from 9:15am to 4:45pm. Volunteer Drivers donate their time and personal vehicles to make this possible. 
  • Additional Services - We are steadily building our cadre of volunteers. Over time we expect to add additional services such as:

The Sleepy Hollow Recreation Department and the Tarrytown Senior Center each have van services which operate until 3:00 pm on weekdays. ITAV rides are available on weekdays from 9:15 am to 4:45 pm. Our volunteer drivers will pick you up at your door, take you to your appointment and fetch you again for your ride home.

TAV provides rides to and from destinations within Westchester County from 9:15am to 4:45pm Monday through Friday providing a Volunteer Driver is available.

How much advanced notice do I need to give for a ride?
How much advanced notice do I need to give for a ride?

To better insure a volunteer driver will be available, we ask members to call (914 222 5116) or email us (info@itav10591.org) for a ride at least 2 full business days before the ride is needed. If a ride is needed on a Tuesday, request the ride by the prior Tjursday. However, if you cannot call that far in advance ... call and we will attempt to find an available volunteer driver ... or we will suggest other options that you might consider.

The number of rides that a member receives is only limited by availability of volunteer drivers. A ride can be requested for just about anything the member wishes: medical appointment, food shopping, social visits, educational events, etc.

Yes, however we are not currently giving rides on weekends, evenings or on holidays.

Does ITAV offer outings to cultural events, i.e. museum visits, theater in NYC?
